I agree they should have given out plaques for the 2nd 298, 299,300 and 800. With the option to buy a ring.
The first ones should have earned a ring.
Can the powers that be explain why the awards are made in China for an organization named the UNITED STATES Bowling Congress? Yes, the products cost less, but seems the UNITED STATES Bowling Congress should be supporting UNITED STATES businesses.
Are you kidding, the government is borrowing all their money from china. We are broke. We don't have any manufacturing anymore. We don't make anything anymore.
Well it was China that made the award possible so I suppose that it is fitting that that the award be manufactured there.
Yes, I myself have been in bowling for a lot of years now and recently last week finally got my first 299 game. Have never bowled a 300 or an 800. I've always just payed my dues and bowled my leagues and congratulated everyone else for their accomplishments no matter how big or small. I also managed a small center for 7 years myself too. When I found out that I wasn't going to get a ring for a 299 game I was shocked. All of the past years that I have struggled and came close but never received one now all seem to be in vain. Yes, the equipment these days is better than in the past, but you still have to throw 12 balls in a row in the pocket and carry all 10 pins evertime, not an easy feat at all. And if the lanes are USBC sanctioned then they should give the awards as they always have. I pay more now for a card than ever before but receive less. The patches and the pins they give for teams and individual awards are a joke. I am seriously thinking of giving up the sport myself after this year, it's not worth the effort anymore. I still enjoy the game but if I have to buy the awards in addition to paying their fees, then what good are they. They don't give us any discounts on equipment or anything for being a member, where do their duties lie anymore. I just don't understand the new USBC at all. It is certainly not better than the old ABC at all, not in my book anyway.
Say jdaryman:
Just wanted you to know, that in our house, everyone stops when someone is in the
final 9th and 10th frames to watch a 300 being bowled. Then a real celebration of
congratulations takes place up and down the lanes. And carries on from one league to
another throughout the week. Some of us even get continued honor months later - perhaps
because I'm one of the few females whose bowled a 300 in our house.
I do agree it is a huge shame that USBC has stopped the giving of 298 & 299 rings. We have
lost many bowlers because of the some of the directional focus USBC Corp office has established.
I truly wonder what they will do when bowlers get wise and don't agree to bowl on a certified
league and in mass we adopt and establish our own local honoring of bowling achievements.
Now that would be a good thing I'm sure. Form our own awards group and keep the money at home.
Vivian, great idea!!! no more certified leagues, no more dues, no more local, state and national associations, no more average keeping for non existing certified tournaments, no more rules to follow for bowling centers, no bowling pin, bowling ball regulations, make up your own league rules, each league and each center allowed to do as they please just by saving that $20 a year going to national, maybe less than that to locals.

...or we can pay the $20 and get the same thing.
I TOTALY AGREE. FIRST TIME ACHIEVED A GOLD RING , then a plaque for second and rockers for the plaque each consecutive time achieved. I think you should recieve an award for the first time, after that it should be easier and a plaque/rocker should suffice. I have 2 300's bowled 1 each December last 2 years, been bowling for 30 years, not easy but thats the way it should be. I feel the same way about all the other awards 150 over serires, 100 over average, etc. they should on first accomplishing this task be given an award, not a cheap one, but worthy of making the advance in their game.
Just a question, what should the $10 paid yearly to national provide for your membership. Of course you pay more than $10 for your yearly membership to USBC but only $10 goes to national and the rest goes to your local and/or state associations. Where should the $300-400 for a gold ring come from???? Should your local provide you with an award? If so what would you expect from your local if your local dues were $10 -- another gold ring? Your $10 does not begin to cover the cost of a siladium ring much less a gold ring. Another question, what do other sports organziations "give" as awards? Should USBC in the awards business? You get a magazine, email information, support the growth of the sport to youth, where else should the $10 go???
Looking forward to responses.

I think that the proprietor who walled the shot up and made it easy to shoot 300 should pay for the jewelry. I also think that the company that sold him the $30,000 lane blocking machine should help him out a little.

What does a $30,000 lane blocking machine look like? In the local 12 laner I kegel in there's definitely nothing like that here. Heck, we're lucky if all 12 lanes work at the same time. So far this season there's been 3 300 games in ALL THE LEAGUES COMBINED (and 2 of them were shot by me, although I am lefthanded and have been told that's why I'm so lucky)
You guy's must bowl in those new fangled "entertainment centers"
