Just got back. I did not golf but in the coupon book that you get when your team captain checks you in, has some coupons.
the first one is for Twin Warriors golf club. $69 Mon-Thur and $79 Fri-Sun. This is the course that is connected to the Santa Ana Star Casino. We went to the casino and the course looked to be in good shape and the layout of the few holes that we could see looked pretty cool. Website is twinwarriorsgolf.com
The next coupon is for the UNM Championship Golf course. It looks as it is out by the airport. The coupon is for 50% off club rental. Website is unmgolf.com
Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun.
With all of the great comments on the golf in Albuquerque....we have a tee time setup for Saturday at Paa-Ko Ridge and Sunday at the UNM course. The only drawback I see is that they are aerating at Paa-Ko Ridge this week. Oh well...within a foot is good...
Scott
Scott,
If you're a puckshooter, you should be used to "rough ice," which is what the greens will be like. No seriously, with today's technology, if they punch the greens a few days before you play...chances are they will roll good by the time you get there.
One other note, depending on the time of day you're teeing off, it might be wise to have a light jacket. I was just there last week and when the wind blew early in the morning/late afternoon, it was quite chilly.

I just found the brochure that I found right inside the doors to the convention center that has discounts on golf and attractions in Albuquerque.
They are offering 30% off on greens fee and cart at these public golf courses:
Arroyo del Oso(505) 884-7505
Ladera (505)836-4449
Los Altos( 505)298-1897
Looks like the 30% off is valid Mon-Fri 11am-1pm tee times, Mon-Fri Twilight(4/12 hours before sundown and Sat, Sun and Holidays for 1pm-3pm tee times. All you have to do is show your USBC card to get the discount. It also wouldn't hurt to pick up the brochure right inside the door of the convention center incase they don't know what you are talking about which I ran into a few times but I got the published discount because I have the coupon or brochure that had it in it.
Also, they are offering half-price admission to the Art and History museum, the ballon museum and the Aquarium and Botanic Garden.
Anyone play Isoleta yet? Last time we were out in ABQ, we played there and Sandia... At that time, we really enjoyed both. This year, we plan on adding U of M... and Paa-Ko Ridge...
Isleta is a fine course....it is directly across the street from the casino & bowling center. Its south of town a bit...but worth the drive. Some elevation change and forced carries on a few holes really make you think you're way around this track.
I have five guys that are playing on May 16th @ Coyote Del Malpais. This course 1 hour west of town on old route 66. The rates are $27 18 holes w/cart & $15 for rentals (Wilson Deep Reds). Only problem I see is there are 16 ponds on the course. I better bring alot of balls.
We found out that the NCAA womens golf championship is at the University of New Mexico championship course the third week in May. They will be punching greens May 27th. So beware if playing that course during that time.
Hey Coprdragon,
Just thought I would put this thread back on top to help you in your search for a good golf couse. Lots of great suggestions here. Good luck in Albuquerque. Throw strikes and hit fairways.
With all of the suggestions being made, I'm sure that I and the guys that I am travelling with will not be disappointed. I'm sure that we will be hitting one or two of these courses before it is time to leave. I will be in ABQ on Memorial Day weekend and will probably hit a couple of the side tournaments along the way as well. Good luck to everybody that hasn't shot in the tournament yet and God Bless.
There are many fine courses in the ABQ area. I don't know how long the special will run but if you sign up at www.unmgolf.com they are offering a coupon for weekend golf. 49.00 including cart. Play Black Mesa (about 60 miles north) well worth the trip.
I played the Sandia course while I was out there in early March and really enjoyed it... what a beautiful place! I stayed at the Sandia hotel also, so it was natural to play there since it was right there. They are doing a little bit of work on the back nine where a drainage ditch is being reconfigured, but otherwise the course was in great shape. I played the "Resort" tees at 6502 yards, thinking that is about what I normally play at home in NJ. Well, it played shorter than I thought because of the altitude. I played fairly well from those tees because I left myself quite a few short iron approaches. If you are a decent hitter/player, I do recommend you move back to at least the Championship tees (7163).
I just returned on Tuesday and we were lucky enough to get to play on Saturday. We played Isleta, and it was a very nice course. The greens could have been better, but that was about the only complaint I would have. The wind was amazing, so be prepared.
