Help, our league has allowed one person from a team to prebowl because of military committments without the whole team. The team wanted to bowl on the regular league night so he was allowed to bowl by himself. Is this legal? Should scores bowled be allowed to stand? He did have a league official there to witness bowling and his scores were printed up by the bowling center and present for the league and opposing team to view. We can't find a rule that specifically denies this.

Page 59 of the rule book. Rule 111a para 3 says individual unopposed prebowling in an adult league is prhibited unles the league rules oterwise.
If there isn't a league rule in place now allowing individual prebowling the scores do not count and the bowlers absent scores would have to be used. If the league wants to add this rule now it would not be retroactive and it would take a 100% written approval of all team captains.
I think usbc allows it. Their honor scores wouldn't be approved if they shot any. If you have a league by-law against individual pre or post bowling that is a different matter. If it was allowed you probily do not.

I encourage my leagues to allow pre and post bowling by teams for my main leagues and individuals for my youth and off peak leagues. If a team calls me during the day and says they can't bowl tonight; I have them schedule a time to make up before the next week of bowling. We don't need a board meeting to allow this. I don't question why they can't bowl at their regular time. I'm just trying to keep my bowlers happy and coming back. If a team or individual abuses bowling out, we question their reason. As long as they keep current on their league fees it is not a problem. They are just missing out on the fun of bowling with their league. If your league is bowling for big prize money,adopt strict rules. If they are mostly bowling for fun and a night out, I dont see why a league can't be flexable on pre and post bowling. The USBC HAS TOO MANY RULES. USE COMMON SENSE.
You may be right, yea here comes the but. What gives you the authority to make up the rules as you go. You own a bowling center you don't own the league. Are you from Mena Ark.
I just suggest common sense options to my leagues. They are free to do as they wish. I never heard of Mena Ark. but you probably don't care for idea from Indiana either.

What D.M. is referring to is an incident that happened about four or five years ago. Somebody posted a thread that was probably very innocent at first. However one thing led to another and everybody (or so it seems) on the league in question was writing nasty messages back and forth. It really gave Mena, Ar. a bad name.

The prince sugarcoated it a little. The accuser said that the owner of a center, the only one in town. Had the assn. officials on his payroll at the center. They didn't give out financial reports to anyone. I guess they did have a problem with money missing or something. The center owner refused to let his employees give out any paper work to verify anything. He was accused of being a "my way or bowl somewhere else" type of guy. If you read up on this you will see what I was refering too. A lady was barred from the center for asking to see reports. This is in court somewhere. Law suits and the courts will settle it.
I just thought you over stepped your authority. Maybe it was for the good but it sounded a little too strong.

which means that the bowler is not allowed to prebowl individually....at least that's the way i read my rulebook.
small town proprietor, it's one thing to refuse to allow teams to prebowl at all. that goes against USBC rules. it's very, very different for an ADULT league to not allow bowlers to pre- or post- bowl individually. there's just too much room for error or impropriety. to each his own, but i personally would never bowl on a non-singles league that allows individual prebowls. i just disagree with the concept.
