Dear Clint:
I'd suggest that you ask the same question in the Coaching forum.
And, of course, the answer(s) would greatly depend upon whether you would opt for a 3-, 4- or 5-step delivery.
whatever you are comfortable with is the right answer. I know people who use 1 step and i know people who take 7. Whatever works, use it. If it isn't working, then ask yourself, what do i need to do. That's what qualified coaches are for.
Which ever you want. The real question is which foot do you finish on..Answer: the oposite of which hand you throw you ball with..

D.M.,
You are 99.99999999999999999999% correct......
In my experience I have known 2 bowlers who finished on the same foot as the hand they rolled the ball with.... and in addition to that... I believe that there was a famous one by the name of Lou ("wrong foot") Campi.......

The average I'm posting was from a gentleman that I bowled with 2 yrs ago. We called him "wrong foot Wally" . He had a bum knee. Righthanded and slid on his right foot.
Of course there are exceptions. I once met one of those compationate consertives?
Just a little change in the subject. What foot do you mark with when getting on the approach? I have alway been told to use the opposite foot you throw with or your marking your starting spot 5 boards off if you use the same foot. Not a real big deal for most people becuase what you use is what you use. Just thought I would ask as most people don't even think of what is right and what is not.

I personally line-up with my Right foot. With my normal (sic.) drift left of 3 boards, my ball will end up equal to my right foot starting ponit at release. Not exactly what is taught, but it helps in making my adjustments both laterally and at my release.

Right handed 4 steps start with the right foot. Mark my spot with my left foot.
Super stitious enough to mark my spot in the middle of a board. Do not like to use those cracks to mark myself. I am cracked enough.
I am a right hand bowler and personally I like a 5 step approach. However that is more for timing than anything because my first step is probably less than half the distance of a normal step, it just seems to get my arm started at the same time as my right leg better than a 4 step does.
Also I would suggest "marking" with whichever foot you slide with because then your body should be in the same spot at the line as it was when you started your approach.
I am a righthanded bowler.
I mark with my left foot and start walking with my left also, this gives me five steps and sliding with my left. This works well for me.
Usually if you have a four step you start with your right foot and if your a five step approach its with you left foot. The bottom line is comfort... You need to be comfortable that's for sure. I personally mark with my left foot this way I know were I start and can see were I finish with the same foot.
I also have a friend who for medical reasons stops on the same foot as he bowls and averages in the 200's.
Also if you mark with your slide foot it will help you notice if your slide shoe got wet or if you forgot to take off your protective bootie.
