    Re: Hotels in Detroit

Hello,  I also live in Canton and have been to the Hyatt Regency a few times recently.  My friend who works in California for Ford Motor Co stays at the Hyatt in Dearborn whenever she comes to town and I go see her there and we have dinner downtown Dearborn.  The hotel is beautiful and I've never had any problems at all.  She says the rooms are very nice and the service excellent.  I am not a fan of Fairlane Mall,  and I do think that they have a problem with that mall,  but the hotel and parking for the hotel are clean and safe.

Romulus is definitely much further from the bowling alley than Livonia.  If it was my choice, I would stay at the Days Inn.  The area around the Days Inn is nice, but it is surrounded by industrial parks and businesses.  There is also a Ford plant within a mile of the hotel.  If you're willing to drive a little bit (within 10-15 minutes) you can find restaurants, shopping, or whatever.  If you take Plymouth Road east from the hotel, you'll hit Wonderland Mall which has been completely rebuilt.  If you take Plymouth Road west, you'll hit downtown Plymouth with all kinds of little shops and restaurants.  If you take Newburgh north, you'll hit Laurel Park mall with more shops and restaurants.  I hope this helps.  :o)

The Days Inn is in a better city but the hotel is filled with people the rent by the week it is a dive with very low class clientle. the only positive is the resturant in the parking lot is very good. I do not know much about the Ramada but I would not stay at any hotel in the airport area other then the Marriott or the Crown Plaza.

If you can check out the Holiday inn express in northville about the same drive as the ramada and I heard they still have some rooms available. also if any one is staying at the Best Western in Livonia be careful I just found out that they are sold out and sending the guest with out rooms to a hotel in Farmington Hills which is about 20 to 30 min farther away.

There are still  rooms available in the northville, Livonia and Plymouth areas. if you are looking for cheap rooms try the Red roof inn it is located at 275 & ann Arbor rd in plymouth. there is a dunkin donuts and denny's with in walking distance.

That's correct, you live in an isolated area, Canton.  Please do not speak of areas that you do not frequent.  The Hyatt is a very nice hotel. Many high profile people that visit the Detroit Metropolitan area stay there. Also, it isn't next to a crappy part of Dearborn, there are million dollar homes right next to it.  But since you know nothing of the area you would know that. Fairlane Mall is a decent mall.  It isn't over run with thugs and criminals, so please don't give that impression to out of town visitors.

    Thank you,

I agree! The Hyatt just hosted the University of Kansas Basketball team and host a lot of other sports teams as well. The Hyatt is one of the niceest hotels in the area. I have been going to Fairlane for years and have never had a problem.

    Re: Hotels in Detroit

I would just like to say my wife had picked out a few spots to stay at near the bowling alley and most, but not all, were well over $100 a night. I did some simple searching on some travel sites and found an excellent deal at the Best Western in Laurel Park in Livonia. Livonia is just up the freeway about 5 miles so its not far at all from the Super Bowl. What really excited her was that the one room suites there include a microwave, fridge, and a HUGE 5' by 6' jacuzzi. With a triple A rate of 10% off the rate is only $80!!  Being that I've travelled to Detroit in the past for work there is a lot of restaurants and shopping in Livonia. You won't be disappointed. I went directly to BW website and booked as they offer the lowest rates online and signed up for a club card to accrue points for our stay to use for misc stuff as well. Hope this helps anyone still deciding on what hotel to book.

    Re: Hotels in Detroit

Well I just want to update our stay in Detroit for the USBC Nationals and the Queens Tournaments. I no longer recommend the Best Western for your stay in Detroit. We arrived early at the BW and the manager there was very rude and when we arrived at 1PM to see if it was possible to check in early and he was very rude about saying we couldn't. From the outside of the building we were also a bit worried about the cosmetics of the building they appeared to be in a remodeling stage and it wasn't appealing to say the least. We then went back in the hotel at 1:30 pm to ask to see a room similar that we would be staying in to decide whether or not to cancel and find somewhere else. At this point he said all rooms were dirty and he had not one room to show us to see what kind of conditions the rooms were in and then finally rudely remarked if we would like to see a dirty room. This managers attitude alerted us we probably weren't going to enjoy our stay there and I cancelled the room on the spot and he had no problem turning away a customer who was going to stay for one week.

Across the street off of 6 mile road and I 275 is a  Radisson hotel with a very welcoming polite staff. It is a 3 star hotel with a absolutely spacious and immaculate lobby with plenty of seating for small or large groups to congregate and talk. There are a few different sections so if you are going with a couple teams it is a great meeting place before or after your bowling to talk. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with sleep number beds and all down bedding including the pillows! The hotel was renovated in 2007 and has that new hotel smell and feeling when you are there. The best part is they do offer a USBC group rate of $89 a night and availability shouldnt be a problem because I don't think word has got out about the place to the bowlers. During the weekdays we had the pool and spa to ourselves as there wasnt many people checked in. There is a bar and wonderful restaurant there as well. I am so glad we changed hotels our stay there was absolutely perfect!

Thanks for the info. We have 3 rooms booked at the Best Western Laurel Park, I will reconsider after reading your post. I am going to check out the Raddison and try to reserve rooms for us.

We have the Marriott Fairfield Inn booked on Haggerty Road in Canton. Any thoughts good or bad on this hotel?

    Thanks

One of the bowlers in our group stayed there and said it was a nice hotel. Also it is in Canton so it is only a few miles to the bowling center.

The Best Western Laurel Park is closer to Super Bowl its only about 20min away and if you want to practice on the usbc shot please stop by Vision Lanes  which is only 3miles east of Super Bowl on ford road. our info is 38250 ford rd. westland, mi 48185 and our phone number is 734-641-8181.  We have great food and we also have live entertainment every weekend.

Hi and thanks for the help. Do you know anything about the area near the Residence Inn in Dearborn? Things to do in the area? Shopping, restaurants and casinos? You never know about the areas when you are coming from out of town and we appreciate the help that te locals give us. We are also planning on going to Canada a few of the ladies heard of a Harrah's up there.

That is a very nice area.  Fairlane Mall, Wendy's, Target, Boston Market, Benihanna's etc are all within a short drive of each other right off of Ford Road.  I wouldn't take Ford Rd from there to go to the Tournament though.  Take the Southfield expressway South to I-94 West to 275 North to Ford Rd make a left and keep going. Superbowl will be on your right behind Burger King.

Why go to Canada to gamble and Detroit has three casino's?  I bowled with a group of outgoing ladies from Florida.  They thought the same thing about Canada.  I told them out Detroit's casinos, we went and had a blast.  Go during the day, they stayed at the Hyatt and the Hyatt offered a Shuttle from the hotels whiched helped them out. Considering they couldn't pull one of there pals out because she kept winning.  The Detroit Casino's are safe, you pull right into the parking structure and walk right in.  Greektown, MGM and Motor City are the three we have and are a short distance from one another. You'll have to drive to each one but they aren't far from the Residence Inn.  From the Residence Inn you can see Detroit's skyline.  However, you can drive East on Michigan Ave. and drive right up to them. Greektown being the furthest of the three.

    Hope this helps..........

I just checked on the availability of group rates for the Radisson hotel and was told that they do not offer a group rate for the USBC Women's National Championships.  Their rate is $169 per night.

    Re: Hotels in Detroit

I am not sure what the difference is but I suggest if you really want to stay there book the room using the Womens National 600 club group rate. Since the Womens National 600 tourney uses the same scores as the USBC scores I don't see much of a difference. Below is a link I found if you want to book on the online reservations center to get the reduced group rate of $89. Or, you could just call the reservation number and mention the womens national 600 club and it will show up in their system.
