    ball speed

I find that my ball speed is inconsistant. My ball speed is gets slower than normal. If I try to through it harder I tend to pull the ball and through very inconsistant. I was wondering if this could be all timing related?

I am new to this forum and will post a few other questions soon.

    thanks anthony

    Re: ball speed

    Welcome Anthony,

Ball speed is a conbination of foot speed to the line and ball swing speed. Bowling has lots of different parts to the puzzle. You can get lost in what to do first. I have learned to trust the bowlers instincts.  You think it may be a timing issue. It very well may be. You have to ask yourself how much do you know about timing and then seek to master it.

This past weekend a tournament player at the TAT being held here in Las Vegas kept going brooklyn on a dry shot and when he tried to throw the ball even harder to get it down the lane it turned much, much sooner.  So what he "felt" he needed to do was not the logical thing to do.  The harder you try to turn the ball as you push it down the lane the sooner it will turn. In his case I instructed him to slow down and deliver the ball as if there was lots of oil on the lanes. He did very well.

Good timing is a must,  knowing how to get into good timing is the key. Doesn't matter if you are a three, four, five or six stepper, your speed and tempo to the line gets you to the breakpoint with a ball that is layed out for good reaction. There are numerous articles, postings, or threads as they call it that talk about timing and how to achieve it.

Look in the upper right hand side of this page. You will see your handle underlined. Below that, in the blue area you will see a blank box and next to it. the word "in" next box " Coaching."   If you type " timing" in the first box and hit the search button it will look for the articles with the word - timing.  You may get the article I did at Christmas time, however there are lots of articles. You will see other page numbers.

If you have other questions we are here for you, and as Liz Johnson autographed for me this weekend, "bowl well."
