Hello fellow bowlers
My name is Tommy b and I would like to get your feelings on the following problem.
Our adult league states that each team is allowed two subs - Team #one listed two bowlers Mike & John.
John came in and bowled three games - that was fine -Mike was asked to come in and bowl and never showed up for several weeks-
The team capt came to me and said he would like to replace mike with another sub Robert and as league Secretary i said that would be ok being that Mike had never actually bowled in our league even though he was listed on that team to bowl- He had zero games but never showed up to bowl.
Problem The Captain on team two feels that Robert is their third sub and should not be allowed to bowl being we are only allowed two subs per team.
I am calling a meeting wit the BOD but meanwhile could I please get your feelings - I don,t see any rules on this subject
Butt have heard different opinions- would like to hear yours
Thanks
Tommy B
My feeling is that he never bowled, so how could he possibly be a sub.
IMO, the team captain has the right to place people on his/her roster. If I'm going to replace a bowler (Bowler 2) on my roster, the bowler being replaced is removed from the roster. Then, I add a person. I still have a full roster, which lists two subs. I could not bring back Bowler 2 on my roster without league approval. Unless you have a league rule stating otherwise, this is acceptable.
The team captain controls their roster, not the league. If my team can have 2 subs, I can choose who they are. Once I remove a person from my roster, I can't bring him back again.
We used to have a bye law rule...(paraphrasing a bit)... A team consists of 7 bowlers (5 man team). You may add a bowler to your roster up to your maximum of 7 bowlers. If you are at roster limit, you must drop a bowler from your roster to add another. You can not add a bowler onto your roster during the final 6 weeks of a half. Once you replace a bowler on your roster, that bowler can not be added back to your roster at any time during the season.
again, the team captain handles their roster...
I agree with jwsbowler. Why would it matter if the sub you are replacing has 3 games or any amount? If you drop them from the team you can add another bowler.
Just hope that the other capt's (bod) aren't as d*mb as team # 2's capt.
Dear Tommy B.:
The three previous replies to your original post are all basically correct.
In short, there is NOTHING AT ALL WRONG with the roster substitution/replacement situation (as you described it).
