    Deb:

Well, I met "the boys" on Wednesday before their 8:30 p.m. team event, and I must say that there's nothing better for an old lady's ego than to be surrounded by a bunch of good looking men who all want to talk to her.  Thanks, guys, for making me feel so special!  Your appreciation for my board responses made the whole project worth the effort.  I'm almost sorry that I won't be able to do the same thing next year for Vegas.  We'll just have to count on "Ask Dave!" to keep us informed.

Again, thank you all for the kind words.

    Deb

P.S. Doctor Doom ... hope you enjoyed your "crab cake"!

    Deb:

......again it was a pleasure meeting you also. You deserve a bronze statue downtown for all you've done to help the bowlers that have come into town.

    Deb,

You mentioned the Doobie Brothers and Chicago, we are coming out this weekend, are there any concerts like this going on from May 2 - 6th.

All bowlers really appreciate what you do.  We will be bowling 2:30 team (Walleye Country)

We are really looking forward to the trip.

I did a quick search of all the normal concert venues, and that week is really dry!  The only "name" event I could find is comedian George Lopez at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho on May 2 & 3.  If you're interested in that, here's the website ... http://www.santaanastarcenter.com/event.php?id=290.

Sorry there's not more going on that week.  Concert season hits its stride around Memorial Day and goes pretty strong through the end of September.

While I haven't used much of the information you have provided, I none the less appreciate your efforts. My teams and I will be on 33&34 tomorrow night. If you have a chance to stop by, I would like to meet you.

We are on the low end (I believe 5&6) for D&S at 5:30 on Wed if htat would be better.

Thanks again for everything you have done for the bowlers and your city.

    Hey Deb,

I've been reading your posts for some time and for someone who is transplanted from the east coast, you really have taken the time to find out a lot about ABQ. I am sure that I speak for the vast majority of the people on this thread that your information has been invaluable. Now that I have said that, I was wondering if you had any valuable information about the LaQuinta Inn on Iliff Road? I've read some good reviews about it, but I feel first-hand knowledge is the best. Will be in ABQ May 22-26.

That La Quinta is on the west side of the city in a relatively busy commercial area.  You'll find all sorts of chain restaurants nearby, and of course, the mandatory Wal-Mart within about a mile.  I haven't been inside, but from the outside it looks like a well-maintained property.  The one thing you'll want to be aware of is that traffic on I-40 west gets very busy in that area at certain times of the day.  Depending on when you're bowling, you could see a bit of gridlock.  I will say, though, that gridlock out here is nothing like on the east coast.  It usually means you're going about 35 miles per hour instead of the speed limit.  You can take surface streets to get to the convention center from the hotel, but there are very few river crossings in the city, so you need to plan your route.

    Hope this helps.

    Deb,

You have been so helpful to everyone, and I hope you can help me out. My sixth man dropped out on me, so I need a bowler for d/s. We bowl those on Sunday the 18th at 11:40 in the morning. The bowler I have is a 200 average guy, and he has cashed the past couple of years. I have tried the sub board, but most of those have already found a place to bowl. Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it. PM me if you need any more info. By the way my name is Robert.

I just wanted to tell everyone what a wonderful help Deb was in trying to find a doubles partner to replace my sixth guy. Keep up the outstanding work with all the local info. Only 2 more weeks till I get to see Albequerque again. Keep an open seat at the Sandia's blackjack table for me.

    Re: Ask Deb!

Thanks for the kudos, rusbersuks.  It has been my pleasure to help out where I can.  I love Albuquerque, and I love bowling, so it was a good match for me to be able to do this.  While a blog might have been fun, this question/answer format probably works best because I can quickly (in some cases) address specific inquiries instead of just waxing poetic about the things I love about the city.

You should have good weather for your visit.  Right now the days are sunny in the low 80s.  We're having a bit of wind, but other than that, the days have been close to perfect recently.

I can't promise getting down to the convention center to meet any bowlers in the next few weeks, as I'm battling a nasty case of shingles - also why I haven't posted much recently.  I wouldn't wish this virus on my worst enemy!  But, I have discovered the pure joy of Vicodin.

Anyway, bowl well and enjoy your trip!

    Re: Ask Deb!

For what it's worth, folks, I have sent this afternoon an email to Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez recommending that Deb be civilly recognized for her efforts on behalf of the bowlers attending this tournament.  If you are so inclined, I invite you to do the same at mayor@cabq.gov

I have to believe it would be refreshing for a mayor or other elected official to be bombarded with something NICE about his jurisdiction and I think we all agree that Deb is more than worthy of such distinction.

I don't mean to embarrass you, Deb, but we mean it from the heart and frankly, if it does come to pass, I wish I could be there to see you get your "star" on the Albuquerque Walk of Fame (or whatever they call it there).

This is Mike Smith, and I approved this message. I'm not a lawyer, but I'd like to play one on TV.

    imnutzo,

Just got back.  Try the Santa Ana Casino.  I liked it better than Sandia.  More space, less smoke.  Course I didn't win at either but I did enjoy Santa Ana more.

If you are not prepared to hear the answer, don't ask the question. Its amazing what you can accomplish when you're not concerned with who gets the credit.
