Test Bowling Balls.... this includes the first bowling ball you have also!!!

Although I may give 200 or so lessons a year, I constantly fight a never ending battle to get the bowling ball drilled correctly for the customer. The past couple of months, especially after the holiday season, sooo many bowlers have received new bowling balls as gifts. They have gone out to their local pro shops and gotten the ball drilled long before their first lesson. Quite honestly the ball will work somewhat but leave much to be desired if it is not matched for
your speed and hand delivery.
March is almost over and the majority of bowlers are wondering what can they do to get the ball to "do better" as the series goes into the second game and the third game, where there scores seem to get worse for most people and sometimes a little better for others.
To most people I will mention the act of getting the ball RE-Drilled as a happy medium to buying another bowling ball or I will STRONGLY suggest another option ... Take a few bowling lessons from a good bowling coach, preferably one that is USBC Certified.
Most
will only think about coaching for a moment or two. The
majority
for whatever reason will listen to the idea of getting the ball re-drilled at first,
however they are hard fast set against putting another set of holes into their bowling ball.
If the ball is going to work for you better, why not give it a try. Instead of having one great game, now you may have two great games. Still you may need to seek that coaching lesson to be able to adjust if you don't have the knowledge like the booklet I have available online.
The point!
We need to treat our first bowling ball and possibly every other bowling ball we buy as test bowling balls.
Bowlers need to get away from the mindset that the bowling ball will be just ruined if we redrill it!
One thing you can tell ball drillers that can be very helpful during the first drilling is whether or not you walk very fast, fast or slow to the foul line.
Also attempt to
show them how you physically release the ball.
The best way to do this is to get a game or two of bowling and have them come to the lanes and watch you toss a few bowling shots at the pins.
Don't freak out if a coach, proshop operator, or even a knowledgeable friend suggest you get your ball redrilled,
especially if you are the type who doesn't know much about bowling ball layouts,
and
especially if you are the type of bowler that does not take care of your ball surface.
Go ahead, t
est your new bowling ball out, ….after you have used it for a while, always remain open to possibly putting another layout on the ball (re-drilling the ball) to help get you to the pocket with confidence.
Enjoy your weekend.
