    300 Prize money

The bowling center I bowl at has several sponsors who donate money every year to be divided between patrons who bowl a 300. It has been brought to my attention that the center owner also takes a cut of this prize money. As it stands right now there have been four perfect games thrown so far this year, I have one, the owner has two and another bowler has one. I have been told that the owner will take half of the prize money and the other half is to be split between me and the other guy. Is it right that the owner takes a cut of the prize money?

Unfortunately, this is another case of "the proprietor is always right".

Having said that, if the owner has already earned two shares of this pot, it does not seem right to see him take a "cut" on top of that.  On the other hand, if the owner did not arrange these sponsors, you'd have no bonus money for which to shoot.  It's kind of a Catch-22.

My question is "What do you mean by a cut of the money". Is it just his share for shooting the 2-300's or does he take money off the top and then splits the rest?

When I was a proprietor I would not have given myself any cash award for shooting an honor score.  Cash awards like that are for the bowlers, not the owner/manager.

I suppose that is a question of what your personal ethics are, but that's my opinion.

Dear jmgonza: In my area, if you raised such a question about a proprietor, you'd probably be barred for life from the center -- and therefore, you wouldn't have a chance to roll any more 300s there. So be thankful for what you DO have.
