I hear what you're saying. The problem is that I used it in the state tournament and it was a heavy oil pattern, and I still couldn't control it. But to give you an example this weekend I threw in a no tap tournament. Granted a no tap is not a true judge, unless you are throwing natural strikes or the occasional 7 pin (for me because I'm a lefty). Because I was uncomfortable throwing the Cell, I left it at home. I used my Storm Domination (which right now is the ball I am scoring the best with). On the same pair of lanes with me was a gentleman who was using a Cell. He was also a very much down and in bowler (5-10 board and in), and he was crushing the pins using that style of play. The oil was not really a heavy oil pattern and scores were pretty high. I shot a 707 series and advanced to the 4th game and there I shot a 242 to finish 4th. I did this with my old reliable Domination. I asked the guy who was throwing the Cell, how he was doing so well with his, when I was struggling so bad with mine. He and at least 10 other bowlers said that the Cell could be set to fit my style and still keep it's aggressiveness. They all recommended I take my best ball, or the ball I am most comfortable with, along with the Cell to a pro shop and get their opinion. Which I am going to do tonight before league play. I just hope that I was not to hasty in my eagerness to own this ball, based on it's rave reviews. Is it possible that this ball is "too much ball " for me and I should have purchased something else? I will most definitely keep you updated. I also have joined a PBA experience league, and am anxious to see how I fare on the pro pattern. I tried it last year and finished with about a 150 average, it was a great experience.
Where do you bowl at? I am from St. Louis as well and I bowl at the one of houses in which the State tournament was held and I have to disagree that it was heavy oil. There was a little more oil than normal, but no means a heavy shot. I shot 2075 there. I'm righthanded, however my Dad is left handed and has a cell as well. He is also a down and in player. He's kept the surface as is and I've maintained it for him at 2000 ab. I'm not too fond of the Cell, as mine burns up too much, I'm an inside player though. You might want to play around with the surface more...like one said take it 4000 abralon and try polishing it up before you think about re drilling it.
I jsut had one drilled up over the weekend, and it does exactly what I wanted it to do..... HOOK LIKE CRAZY!! It gets decent length and then flips over and MOVES! Didn't leave a single 7 pin with it (yup... I'm a lefty). I managed the front 8 with it out of the box before sending too wide (apparently it doesn't make it back from anywhere) and finishing with a 265.
I can play striaght up or move fairly deep..... still working on playing outside of 4th arrow..... then again, if you have to play that deep.... switch to something less aggressive. I think I am really going to like this ball.
If you're having trouble controlling it, shine it up a bit, or maybe it's just the wrong ball for the houses you are bowling in. It is made for a heavier oil condition.
