Minor setback...but ready to start again

Hi everyone!!  Thought I would catch you up on my bowling comeback, since it has been awhile.  Bowling was put on the back burner, as once again I found myself in the hospital.  For some reason, my blood pressure was spiking in the middle of the night and heart was racing (pulse between 110 and 120 just resting).  After many tests to ensure nothing major was wrong, another BP med was added to my daily dose.  This seems to be working ... and I am now cleared to get back to bowling.

We have 2 weeks remaining in the league season, with the position round for the 2nd half next week followed by the rolloff between the 1st and 2nd half winners.  We won the first half, and are sitting 4 points out of 1st for the second half.  We will have to "sweep" the points next week to eliminate the need for a rolloff, but if not will get the chance to win the league the next week.

When I first started back, I set a 120 average.  By the end of the 1st half I had improved my average to 170.  But this second half, I have seen very little improvement in my game, only increasing average to 175.  With only 3 games a week of bowling this will have to do.  I know that in order to improve I must bowl more than that, and with the price of gas now, that 170 mile trip is not economically feasable at this time.

Looking forward to Detroit, only one more month before we leave!

P.S.  TrueBowler, thanks a million!!!!  I now have the best 10-pin conversion percentage I have ever had!  Now if I could just get all those strikes back that I used to take for granted...lol

Wow Karen, I am soooo happy for you!!!  And only 4 points out of 1st for the second half.  You said you will have to "sweep" the points next week to eliminate the need for a rolloff well, " Get out the broom!!!  I will be praying that the pins fall your way.

" P.S.  TrueBowler, thanks a million!!!!  I now have the best 10-pin conversion percentage I have ever had!  Now if I could just get all those strikes back that I used to take for granted...lol "

You are very welcomed Karen from my heart.  Because of my adjustments book I feel more and more like a surrogote coach day after day to bowlers across the country. Its a weird feeling however, I know its something long overdue.

I pray that you will continue to do well both in your health and your game. The next level is truly about adjustments from 180 and above and the majority people know that.

I'll keep in touch on email and send you sumpn that may help you to find the pocket and stay in the pocket for a while.

God's Blessings to you and your husband.

Party!!!  Well, we got the broom out!  Swept the points enabling us to win the 1st and 2nd half.  Now next week is "just for fun", and I will be using those three games to try out "sumpn" from truebowler to try to increase my strike percentage.  Overall, I am very happy with my improvements throught the year, and look forward to next year.  My confidence level has increased with each week that I have bowled, and I feel that I am ready to take my game to the next level.  That means that somehow, some way, I will have to find a way to bowl more than 3 games a week (practice, practice, practice).  I thank each and every one of my bowl.com friends and supporters who encouraged me to continue my efforts in my comeback after suffering a stroke two years ago.

    Again, thanks and god bless...

Keep up the good work Karen. Next week it will be 3 yrs since my 1st stroke.  I had my first 700 since my stroke 2 weeks ago, and have  had 6 games over 270 since Christmas.

Now if I can only relearn how to slide!

    Gail,

Congrats!!!  My series high was a 656 around Christmas.  I too am having difficulties sliding like I used to.  I am going to try one of those "slide socks" this summer to possibly help me slide a little more.  My teammate uses one and she never has a problem, no matter what house she bowls in.  I figure it won't hurt to try it, I feel I need more slide in order to "get my game back".

It is nice to hear from someone who has rebounded from their stroke.  I must say that it was the biggest challenge I have had to try to overcome in my life.  But I do believe that bowling has helped me regain the use of my left side faster than normal, those first few months were really challenging, just being able to deliver the ball without falling was an accomplishment!  And progress seemed slow to me, having to start over again with 300 series (really hurt the ego!), then graduating to 400 series, and so on.  When you are used to popping 600's on a regular basis, then have to completely "relearn" how to bowl, there are so many little things that I took for granted.  I just can't imagine not bowling, it is what I look forward to each week!

Again, thanks for your sharing your story - I hope my game comes back as yours apparently has.

    Karen
