This is a request to any PBA or former PBA bowler (Riggs, Bryon Smith in particular). Since it seems like if you make a request to the tournament director, it gets honored. Therefore, please request that shorts be worn at the tournament as it will be hot at the end of May when are four teams bowl.
P.S. They allowed the women to wear them last fall during a nationally televised tournament in Reno.
Thanks in advance.

I'm going the end of June and have no need for shorts.... plus I don't want to blind other bowlers with the glare off my white legs.
Shorts are unnecessary...... the center is air conditioned and rather chilly when just standing around (from past Open experiences) so I don't think you'll need them to stay cool.

I disagree ... the bowlers are not "just standing around" which is why we have issues. I bowled in mid-March and I was still sweating, especially in doubles and singles when your pace has more than doubled from team event.

The standing around I was referring to is as a specator. When you're bowling S/D then even I tend to sweat a bit..... but I don't think it's enough to warrant shorts (I'm a big guy.... 6'4" 300). I know for team, the pace is slow enough you wouldn't need them. I think the inside temperature will be the same when I head up at the end of June..... only time will tell.
No opinion on shorts, but I would like to be able to wear a cap.
Here we go again. This tournament is the premier event for the sport of bowling in the entire world. The participants should represent the top, non-professional, bowlers anywhere. It therefore seems that appropriate attire (no shorts, hats, or jeans) should be worn to promote the event for what it is. I believe it's just a small part of returning integrity to the sport.
How many times do I have to say this?
This is the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!
NO SHORTS, AND NO HATS!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not your league at home, it's the biggest bowling tournament in the world and should be treated with the utmost respect. If you can not bear to put on long pants for 2 days, then find another bush league tourney to spend your money on.

Let's add onto that request that the entrants be able to wear tank-tops, eat pizza, drink beer and other beverages, smoke, chew tobacco, put rosin on the outside of their ball, cuss loudly, and throw the ball between their legs.
If you don't like the rules; please, just don't go.
Well said JohnW. As I said in another post earlier on the same subject, it CANNOT and WILL NOT kill you to wear dress pants of dockers for 3 hours for team event and 2 hrs. 20 mins for s/d. Trust me it didn't kill me or the others i went with, and we all like to shorts when we bowl but this is our NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

JohnW,
You can't see it or hear it but I just gave you a standing ovation for your response!
I agree with my fellow Hoosier above, if you dont like the rules then dont go. Its a class tournament held once a year and one would think it would be nice to look nice. Not like the Friday night mens leauge where hats, shorts, tank tops and jeans are the normal year around.

Lol, you all crack me up except for the guy who was in agreement with me.
I could care less about wearing pants in the tournament. My main points were:
1) it seems like the "PBA" bowlers can make a request, there is no discussion, and Voila!!, they get what they want.
2) I have never seen any cameras at the tournament except for video and photographic; therefore, why were the ladies able to wear shorts skorts capris or whatever you want to call them last fall on national television?
Maybe I should become a card carrier and make this basic request. I might get heard by those that count and not by people who I don't know.
Keep responding, though, I would love to hear more opinions, they're fun to read. Oh, and one more thing, send a PM if you want another response, as this will be my last one in the general forum.

I've seen tournaments with the PBA bowlers in hats, it was outside, but it was still the PBA. Rules can always change. It wasn't that long ago that wheeled bowling bags were not allowed at the Nationals.
This far from a "PREMIER BOWLING EVENT" when the "Brass" allow bowlers to cheat their way to the top.
But paying the small entry fee for the privilege to clean up in brackets is well worth the hassle. Good Job USBC....
If it was up to me, it would be no jeans, no shorts, no hats - dress slacks and either polos or athletic mocks of the type we can wear in the PBA (and Tiger Woods wears in the PGA). But I don't care enough to fry one way or the other - whatever USBC does is not going to impact me in any significant way.
For the record, the PBA allowed shorts for the Six Flags event last summer because it was held outside and it was over 90 degrees air temp with the lane temps measured well over 100. I understood that but still flinched a little seeing the guys in shorts - I'm a gym rat but white as Caspar the friendly ghost and wouldn't want to subject anyone to the glare while bowling!
The only time I ever bowl in anything but slacks and a polo or mock is the Petersen but that is a very special case.
Unless the A/C failed at nationals I wouldn't favor shorts being allowed.
IMHO, women should be able to wear skirts because that's dress attire for women.
