Why did they Change Order for Singles and Doubles??

In Reno in 2001 we bowled singles first, then doubles.  This makes better sense, so if you partner or teammate is late he is penelized for single and it won't effect doubles.

For the last two years (at least)  they have bowled Doubles then singles.

          1.  Why was the order changed.

            2. What was the rational behind the change,, It makes no sense to me.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Scott ... I've been bowling this since Huntsville 1997 and doubles has always been first.

I understand the rationale but, given the amount of lead time needed to check in and that team is always bowled the first day, it really shouldn't matter.  We're already in the area.  And bowling doubles first means you're only hurting yourself if you have to stop after three games due to injury or fatigue.

I agree with the other responses.  I've bowled every year since Reno in 1995 and it has always been doubles first, then singles.

I've been bowling since 86' (the last time we were in VEGAS) and it is always been Doubles first.....I think you are mistaken also.

     Dear Scottbour:

The other posters are certainly correct ... that doubles has ALWAYS been bowled prior to singles.

But, by any chance, did you perhaps bowl in some OTHER event at the National Bowling Stadium, such as some other national doubles/team tournament and/or the national seniors tournament? [You are correct that in many, if not most, tournaments, singles does, indeed, come first].

If I remember right, ABC came out with a questionare a few years back and one of the questions asked singles or doubles first. The D then S won by a wide margin. I prefer it because of the lack of practice on the lanes when starting S&D's. It has been Doubles then singles for the 20 years I have bowled in it. We used to have a 10:30 team, which was changed to 8:30 thus adding the 11:30 PM D&S's.

You can get plenty of warm up on the stub lane. Are singles more important than doubles? What if your doubles partner has a problem and shows up 15 minutes late? This can and does happen. Why not try the singles first one year and see what happens. Just because its always been done one way doesn't mean it couldn't be changed to test the waters. Change is important if you want to improve your product. Has McDonalds remained the same for the last 30 years?

As I stated in an earlier post, USBC took a survey a few years back and asked if we wanted doubles or singles first. I believe the overwelming vote was for doubles first singles second. The stub lane does not give the read of the lanes. It only allows you to warm up.  We have changed. Jeans are now allowed which I think is wrong, but to each his own.Mock shirts are now allowed. Women are now allowed which I think is so wrong but USBC has a lot more participants because of it. We now have a classified division which we didn't have before. We now bowl on a sport shot that is not fair to the bowlers that do not bowl the sport shot. There's a lot of bowlers that would qualify for the classified division if they did bowl on a sport shot in leagues. I know I would average less.We now get 5 minutes shadow bowl in team which we never had before. You used to get 1 ball on each lane.  You now get 2 balls on each lane for doubles which we didn't have before. I see a lot of change over the last 20 years. I think USBC continues to listen and address things that come up in nationals. We all don't always agree but i give them credit for all the hard work they do.  I really think that those that do not compete on a sports shot in a league have a big disadvantage to those that do bowl on a sport shot all winter.
