    Assistance on choosing new ball

I have been bowling ten pin now for about 1 1/2 years. previously I bowled duckpin. I started out in ten pin with a 167 avg. This year I am up to a 182. I currently bowl with a Columbia Wrath. I throw over the 6-7 board. I am looking for something that will explode the pocket better and will react better on different oil patterns. All advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Norm

Re: Assistance on choosing new ball

    Greetings Norm,

Lots of sites just like ours on bowl.com will have numberous postings about equipment, and balls that are performing well. What I have found is that you have to match your speed, your rev rate, and your type of release against your current ball arsenal with its cover and current layout.  Most will agree this may give you a different look on your next bowling ball. The cover and the layout and core weight properties are extremely important aspects to consider when getting a better finish on the ball. Unless you get quite technical it can all turn ugly and leave a bowler pretty lost. Unless you can address how your ball reacts to a driller, its hard to guess what you really need as far as a new layout. Quite honestly it sounds as if the Wrath stops working for you during the game.

We all have to learn how to adjust our delivery onto the lanes to get the ball to finish at the pocket time and time again during the game which is why I wrote True Bowler Adjustments.   I truly enjoy teaching bowlers how to get to the pocket and stay in the pocket with just one ball for a three game set. Its a lesson that most coaches teach one-on-one.  Adjusting to the lanes is easy as long as you know what to look for. For most of us who can keep you in the pocket with your style of delivery we often can be affectionately called a super coach. These adjustments aren't often put in a book. I can assure you I put 98% in my book and left the last 2% for the super coaches who can keep you in the pocket by teaching you how to recognized the differences in the patterns during warm up so you can stay ahead of the shot.  Often its extremely difficult to teach the 2% if you have skipped over most of the other 98% just trying to find the right ball time and time again. You can waste a lot of money.

Shot Solution: You can try going to www.BallReviews.com lots of bowlers post information there, and if you can understand their lingo you can give it the once over and hopefully find something that will compliment the Wrath.  I shutter to think that the Wrath doesn't finish for you.  I can't help but wonder if the Wrath is working on the first two games, and not the last game? Is it just working the first game?  Or is it only working the third game for you?  I have no alliance with any ball company, I do not endorse one ball over another, I just observed different bowlers delivering the ball. Even slightly rev'd up it is a monster to the pocket Normally.

The Wrath has all that weight shifted to the top it should just punish the pins on a typical house shot(THS) by literally flipping to the pocket on the backend.  What does your current layout look like? If you are unsure how to answer, True Bowler Adjustments can get you started to truly understanding bowling balls and their layouts.

    Bowl well,

Thank you for responding to my call for help. I appreciate that very much. as far as when my ball is working for me it all depends on the house shot we have that night. last night i went 257 , 184 , 183. Now i know i have the capability of bowling over 200 every game but i just cant seem to keep my shot in the pocket no matter what adj i make. maybe it is my form? the first string last night i started with 5 strikes couple spares and more stikes it was a great game. one i know i can repeat if i can get some better control. I will check out the websites you have posted. because we have a 9pin no tap tourney next week and i would like to win that.

    thanks again

Please do. I erge all bowlers to do so. I actually have a chapter, "Staying in the Pocket."  Its dedicated to giving you what you need. It's terrible when the bowler next door knows sumpn and you are kinda figuring it out as you go.  Bowl well !!!
